HBO have just released a teaser trailer for Treme, the new series from The Wire’s creator David Simon. The show is set in post-Hurricane Katrina New Orleans and centres around a group of local musicians. It stars Wire alumni Wendell Pierce and Clarke Peters (who played Bunk Moreland and Lester Freamon in the Baltimore-set TV masterpiece) as well as the mighty John Goodman and -- somewhat bizarrely -- Elvis Costello.
Here’s the trailer:

Costello?
I love EC, but I really don’t think he can act.
As the main protagonists are musicians I’m guessing he’s playing himself, perhaps performing a gig in New Orleans with Burt Bacharach. Who knows? He played himself in a memorable episode of the Larry Sanders Show (weren’t they all), so that doesn’t bother me so much.
He also played a character in Alex Cox’s Straight To Hell, as I recall. It wasn’t an altogether convincing performance.
